Crane barge on scene in Crescent City, sunken vessels to be removed from harbor
Unified Command's top priority is to remove pollution threat

WHO: The Crescent City Tsunami Response Unified Command comprised of representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, California Department of Fish & Game and the Crescent City Harbor District.

WHAT: The crane barge towed up from the San Francisco Bay Area is on scene and will begin operations essential to mitigating any environmental impact by removing sunken and damaged vessels from the Crescent City Inner Boat Basin. The Unified Command's primary operational goals are to mitigate any further environmental impact and to work toward returning the Crescent City Harbor to normal operations.

SPOKESPERSONS: Interviews with spokespersons from the Unified Command can be scheduled by calling (281) 851-4546. Spokespersons will discuss the crane's operations and pollution mitigation efforts.

Media interested in viewing operations should coordinate access with the Joint Information Center at (510) 409-9825. Safety procedures will be strictly enforced so media personnel are highly encouraged to come prepared with U.S. Coast Guard certified lifejackets and hard hats for all personnel who want to enter the operational area. The Crescent City Tsunami Responders have limited safety gear to offer all interested attendees.
