10 cancer patients to ride aboard Coast Guard cutter for Fleet Week

WHO:  The San Francisco-based Coast Guard Cutter Aspen will be hosting 10 young cancer patients and their families from the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto. The boys, ages 8 to 18, will be enjoying this year’s Fleet Week air show.

WHAT: The media is invited to cover this event which was made possible by CHEERS, a program that gives cancer patients and their families peer support through outdoor group activities. In addition, 19 for Life, a charitable foundation created to honor the life of DJ Frandsen—brother of former San Francisco Giants player Kevin Frandsen—paid for the limousine that will transport the boys from the hospital to Yerba Buena Island.

WHEN: 9 a.m., Friday, Oct. 7, 2011

WHERE: U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, Yerba Buena Island, aboard the the Cutter Aspen.

All media will need to present I.D. at the front gate.
