Media Advisory: Heroic Rescue Earns Local Good Samaritans Certificate of Valor from Pacific Area Commander

  • WHO: Vice Adm. Manson K. Brown, Coast Guard Pacific Area commander, and Maurice and Sophie Conti. 

  •  WHAT: Vice Adm. Brown will provide official recognition to the Conti's for extraordinary seamanship and lifesaving efforts.

Summary: In the South Pacific aboard their yacht Ocealys, Maurice and Sophie Conti courageously saved the lives of three boaters in the early hours of October 13, 2008.  The Conti’s, now residents of Muir Beach, Calif., will be presented Certificates of Valor by the Coast Guard Pacific Area Commander.   

The certificate of valor is awarded to those who exhibit courage in saving a life or attempting to save a life at extreme risk.
