COAST GUARD ISLAND, ALAMEDA, Calif. - Media are invited to cover the Coast Guard's Maritime Safety and Secuirty Team San Francisco change of command held here Thursday at 10 a.m. The Maritime Safety and Security Team is a part of the Department of Homeland Security's layered strategy directed at protecting seaports and waterways to include the San Francisco Bay Area. MSSTs provide waterborne and a modest level of shoreside anti-terrorism force protection for strategic shipping, high interest vessels and critical infrastructure. MSSTs are a quick response force capable of rapid, nationwide deployment via air, ground or sea transportation in response to changing threat conditions and evolving Maritime Homeland Security mission requirements. The following facts apply: Who: Lt. Cmdr. Michael Baroody and Lt. Cmdr Gregory Thomas. What: Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Thomas will relieve Lt. Cmdr. Michael Baroody's command of San Francisco's Maritime Safety and Security Team. When: 10 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2006.
