Hamilton's Commanding Officer Temporarily Relieved of Command COAST GUARD ISLAND, ALAMEDA, Calif. - Vice Adm. Charles D. Wurster, commander of the Coast Guard's PacificArea, temporarily relieved Capt. Jeff S. Lee of command of the Coast Guard cutter Hamilton Sept. 23, citing a loss of confidence in the officer's ability to command. Pending the results of an administrative investigation, Wurster may recommend that Lee resume command of the ship or be permanently relieved. Capt. Lance L. Bardo assumed temporary command of Hamilton while the ship was in a scheduled port call in a Central American port. The cutter resumed its Eastern Pacific Ocean patrol Sept. 24 and is currently at sea. Lee has been temporarily reassigned to the Pacific Area staff during the investigation. The Hamilton is a 378-foot High Endurance Cutter based in San Diego. It primarily conducts search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and homeland defense missions throughout the Pacific Ocean. ### |
