Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf Crew transfers to Gulf Coast ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Crewmembers of the Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf, the service's first new high endurance cutter in more than 35 years, are scheduled to arrive at Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., at 3 p.m. Thursday. Flying aboard an HC-130J aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, Calif., this is the second of four phases of crew transfers from their pre-commissioning facility here to the Gulf Coast, where they are preparing to take control of the first-of-class National Security Cutter at Northrop Grumman's shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. Upon their arrival in Mobile, crewmembers will be available for media interviews to discuss Bertholf's equipment capabilities and their training as they ready themselves for service aboard the new 418-foot cutter. The crews of several new aircraft will also be on hand to showcase the aircraft on display, including the missionized HC-130J long-range surveillance aircraft, the HC-144A Ocean Sentry medium-range surveillance aircraft, and the re-engined HC-65C helicopter. Following sea trials and an east coast patrol, Bertholf will sail west and be homeported here.
