Coast Guard Rescues Two People off Lopez Point SAN FRANCISCO - The Coast Guard rescued two people off a 39-foot disabled Sailing Vessel Sadie one mile west of Lopez Point, approximately 45 miles south of Monterey, Calif. Sector San Francisco received the distress call at 10:25 a.m., and immediately launched a HH-65 helicopter from Air Station San Francisco. A 47-foot motor life boat, from Station Morro Bay, and a 47-foot motor life boat, from Station Monterey, responded. An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast notified the Monterey National Marine Sanctuary. The Coast Guard helicopter successfully hoisted both people after they disembarked the sailing vessel. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration is working with the vessel owner to determine a salvage plan for the vessel which has an estimated 30 gallons of fuel on board. ### |
