Coast Guard provides safety, security for Fleet Week 2008 SAN FRANCISCO -- Coast Guard units from the San Francisco area, central California and southern California are working with local law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and enjoyable Fleet Week, 2008. Coast Guard cutters and small boats are enforcing safety and security zones during the parade of ships and air show, providing law enforcement support and standing by to assist boaters in case of emergency. The Coast Guard reminds boaters to have the required safety equipment and to exercise good judgment while on the water. By ensuring all lifesaving equipment is in working order and filing a float plan with friends or relatives, boaters can increase the effectiveness of Coast Guard response in the event of an emergency.
