Coast Guard cutter Healy to visit British Columbia

VICTORIA, British Columbia - The Coast Guard cutter Healy, the United States largest icebreaker, is scheduled to arrive in Victoria, British Colombia, Feb. 6, 2009, after conducting a series of tests and drills in the Straits of Juan de Fuca and along the Eastern Bank, in preparation for a three month Arctic West Patrol scheduled in March.

The patrol will be in support of the ongoing research program, the Bering Sea Ecosystem Study.

Last year, the Healy crew worked with the Canadian Coast Guard ship, Louis S. St. Laurent, to collect data in support of research on the U.S. and Canadian extended continental shelves. The Healy is scheduled to work with the Canadian Coast Guard again this summer during the upcoming Arctic patrol.

For interviews, please contact Lt.j.g. Tasha Thomas at Tasha.n.thomas@uscg.mil.
