Coast Guard, Sacramento Sherriff's Department respond to person in water
ALAMEDA, Calif. - The Coast Guard responded to a report of a person in the water near Walnut Grove in the Sacramento River Delta Sunday morning. The California Highway Patrol notified the Coast Guard they had received a report that a person had fallen from their boat into the water, and was subsequently struck by the same boat. A second boat picked up the person from the water and transported the victim to Wimpy's Marina, where emergency personnel were waiting. The paramedics pronounced the person deceased upon arrival to the marina. Personnel from Coast Guard Station Rio Vista as well as the Sacramento Sherriff's Department arrived on scene shortly after to question those involved. The incident is currently being investigated. The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to exercise extreme caution while on the water, and strongly encourages all mariners to always wear a flotation device. ###
