Updated C-130 Video:  Coast Guard locates missing San Francisco sailor

SAN DIEGO – The Coast Guard escorted the sailing vessel Sea Hag into San Diego Harbor this morning after the vessel had been lost at sea for most of the weekend.

A C-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento located the sailing vessel and its operator, Sean Haggerty, 46 miles southwest of San Diego at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday, after the Coast Guard had spent the day searching the California coastal waters.  Haggerty was sailing from San Francisco to San Diego when his father reported him overdue Saturday afternoon.

The Coast Guard Cutter Haddock was in the area, diverted to the location and arrived on scene at 8 p.m.  Once they determined Haggerty did not need any immediate medical attention, they took the Sea Hag in tow and brought the vessel and operator safely to San Diego Harbor.

Helicopters from Coast Guard Air Stations San Diego and Los Angeles, as well as a C-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento spent the day Sunday searching the California Coast from Point Conception south to the coast of Mexico.  On the last part of the search before heading home, the crew of the C-130 spotted a sailing vessel with one person onboard, which matched the description of the Sea Hag.

The Coast Guard was initially unable to make contact with the vessel, so the C-130 crew dropped a radio to the boat.  The Coast Guard Cutter Haddock was also dispatched to the location.
