ALAMEDA, Calif. - Coast Guard's ports, waterways and coastal security program for Northern California achieved a new level of protection when the air crews and aerial gunners from Air Station San Francisco completed their final phase of initial training evolutions designed to stop terrorist, Thursday, June 11, 2009, in San Pablo Bay. The air station crews have been conducting extensive land-based and open-ocean firing range training and hostile-boat intercept maneuvers drills since the initial phase of operations began in late January, when helicopters were outfitted with M-14T rifles, machine guns, and aerial marksmen. The armed helicopters join the Coast Guard's existing fleet of armed boats, cutters, and maritime security boarding teams equipped to stop terrorist. The armed helicopters added another tool the Bay Area Coast Guard can utilize to save lives, stop terrorist, and protect coastal assets. Ports, waterways, and coastal security is a homeland security mission, and is for stopping serious threats to Northern California's bridges, cruise ships, anchorages, ports, and other potential waterfront targets. It will not be used in routine law enforcement missions. New photos regarding the ports, waterways, and coastal security program.
