Coast Guard responds to pollution on Noyo River
FORT BRAGG, Calif. - The Coast Guard, in cooperation with the California Department of Fish and Game, has been overseeing the cleanup efforts, ongoing since Sunday, June 14, of approximately 30 gallons of oil released into the Noyo River when the 52-foot fishing vessel, Tango, sank at its dock. At 2:30 p.m., today, cleanup operations have been completed, and no further evidence of pollution has been reported. At approximately 6 p.m., Sunday, Coast Guard Station Noyo River responded to the sunken vessel and deployed an absorbent boom and pads around the vessel to contain the spill. A pollution response team, from Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Humboldt Bay, also responded to ensure proper cleanup actions were conducted. Coast Guard Pollution Response Teams worked closely with the California Department of Fish and Game and the vessel's owner to coordinate cleanup operations. A commercial pollution response company, contracted by the Coast Guard, removed approximately 80 gallons of remaining diesel fuel from the vessel’s tanks. Additional absorbent pads were used, both inside and outside the vessel, to remove the remaining engine oil.
