Coast Guard responds to boat collision in the Sacramento Delta

ALAMEDA, Calif. - Coast Guard Station Rio Vista and the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department responded to a collision between a 20-foot boat with six adults and one child aboard, and an 18-foot boat with two adults near Discovery Bay, today.

A crew aboard a 25-foot rapid response boat from Station Rio Vista arrived on scene around 11:30 a.m. Although no one was in the water, the passengers aboard the 20-foot boat suffered minor impact-related injuries. The Coast Guard crew towed the 20-foot boat into the marina at Discovery Bay, and transfered all seven passengers to waiting ambulances on the shore. The patients were brought to local hospitals. The 18-foot boat was able to operate under its own power, and the passengers have not reported any injuries.

The sheriff's department also arrived on scene, and is conducting an investigation into the incident.
