Group Humboldt Bay ready for salmon season |
||
|
MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – Coast Guard Group Humboldt Bay is coordinating with state and local agencies to ensure a safe salmon season. Group Humboldt Bay is prepared for a large increase in maritime activity in the area due to the salmon season bringing in many boats from outside of the immediate area. When on the water, mariners are requested to wear life jackets and to file “float plans” with friends or families ashore. A good float plan includes a description of the vessel, names of the crew, a list of safety equipment on board, your destination and the estimated time of arrival at the fishing grounds and your ultimate destination. The Coast Guard does not accept float plans. If the voyage changes from the filed float plan, mariners should contact the person holding the float plan to keep them informed of new details. Once the vessel returns to its home port or reaches its destination, mariners should close out their float plan. Float plan templates are available at many websites on the Internet. ###
