Body of cargo ship crewman recovered from San Francisco Bay

SAN FRANCISCO - The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a man overboard off the container vessel Ever Elite in the vicinity of the Bay Bridge at around 5:10 a.m., today.

The 900-foot container vessel was transiting inbound to Oakland Outer Harbor when they reported to the Coast Guard that they had a man overboard.  A 25-foot response boat from Station San Francisco was launched to the scene.  The pilot vessel Golden Gate along with three other nearby tugs responded.  The pilot vessel Golden Gate located the crew member who was found two feet under water with no personal flotation device.  The crew member was transported to Pier 35 in San Francisco where San Francisco EMS pronounced the crewman deceased.

A Coast Guard investigation is ongoing.
