Coast Guard delivers medical supplies to areas hit by tsunami

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento deployed a second HC-130 Hercules aircraft carrying over 9,500 pounds of medical supplies to Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, this morning.

An additional Coast Guard relief crew from Sacramento was sent out directly to Hawaii via commercial air at approximately 6 a.m. The crew will assist Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point when they arrive.

A Hercules aircraft from Sacramento left Tuesday night carrying Federal Emergency Management Agency personnel, the Coast Guard Pacific Strike Team and other communications personnel.  After assessing the situation, the crew determined more supplies and personnel were needed immediately.  Air Station Sacramento now has two planes and three crews dedicated to relief efforts.
