Media Availability: Coast Guard reminds boaters to be safe during Fleet Week

WHO: U. S. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, Station Golden Gate and Marine Safety and Security Team personnel.

WHAT:  Coast Guard personnel will be available to speak on boating safety, Fleet Week security zones, and will demonstrate proper lifejacket use and other safety guidelines. There will also be a law enforcement dog and handler demonstration from Marine Safety and Security Team San Francisco. Law enforcement dogs are trained to detect explosive materials or illegal substances.

WHEN: Friday, October 9 at 1 p.m.

WHERE: Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, 435 Murray Circle, Sausalito, Calif.

Historically during Fleet Week activities, boating traffic has been very congested near the San Francisco waterfront and with the combination of boat wakes and mid-day winds can make the waters rough.  Boaters are urged to navigate with extreme caution and remain cognizant of the security zones in place for the Parade of Ships and aerial shows.
