U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Chase gives training to Peruvian Coast Guard PAITA, Peru – Crewmembers aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Chase conducted law enforcement training with members from the Peruvian Coast Guard during their recent patrol to the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The law enforcement training, given by qualified boarding team members, taught the Peruvians the U.S. Coast Guard’s methods of conducting counter-drug detection and law enforcement, along with the use of the latest tactical equipment. “Not only were we motivated to teach the Peruvian Coast Guard, but their members were very eager to learn every aspect of our law enforcement procedures,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Guillermo Velazquez, a Spanish-speaking translator and boarding officer stationed aboard the Chase. “We developed a positive relationship which we hope to continuously improve.” The crew of the Chase also worked on improving the exchange of information between the two nations’ maritime security services. International cooperation is a key component to successful drug interdiction efforts in the Pacific Domain. The Chase is a 378-foot high-endurance cutter based in San Diego. Chase is a multi-mission cutter capable of performing a wide range of missions within the Coast Guard’s five fundamental roles of maritime safety, maritime security, maritime mobility, national defense and protection of natural resources. ### Saving Lives and Guarding the Coast Since 1790. |
