Coast Guard rescues five people after Alameda-based boat sinks off the coast of Mexico

 

 

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Coast Guard rescued five people from a life raft after their 40-foot sailing vessel sank 200 miles south of Point Loma, Calif. and 50 miles west of Mexico at 2:15 p.m. today.

The five people had been aboard the sailing vessel Crosswave, homeported in Marina Village, here. The sailing vessel and sailors were part of the Baja Ha Ha, a sailing race from the Port of San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. All five people were hoisted into an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and will be transported to Air Station San Diego with an estimated time of arrival of 4:15 p.m. There are no reported injuries.

Further information will be released as it comes in from San Diego. Video of the rescue will be released as it becomes available.
