Coast Guard, Contra Costa Sheriff's recover body of Franks Tract boater

SAN FRANCISCO — The U.S. Coast Guard and Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department have recovered the body of a Franks Tract boater, today.

Yesterday at 4:49 p.m., the Coast Guard received the report of a capsized 18-foot aluminum hull vessel in Franks Tract.  A 25-foot response boat from Station Rio Vista, a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station San Francisco, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department Marine Unit and helicopter were dispatched to the scene.  At 9:00 p.m. last night after 14 search patterns were completed with negative results, the search was called off for the vessel's operator.

The boater, who was duck hunting with his dog, was initially reported overdue after his family became concerned and contacted local authorities, yesterday.  The dog was located ashore near a duck blind, approximately 15-feet from the capsized vessel with no signs of the vessel's operator.

A 25-foot response boat from Station Rio Vista assisted the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department Marine Unit today with dive operations, resulting in the location of a body.
