Coast Guard responds to spill in San Francisco Bay

 

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Coast Guard, California Office of Spill Prevention and Response are responding to a fuel-oil spill in San Francisco Bay morning.

  • The Panamanian-flagged vessel Dubai Star and a fuel barge were conducting bunkering operations at Anchorage Nine in San Francisco Bay when it released an unknown amount of fuel oil into the water.
  • The spill was reported to the Coast Guard at 6:48 a.m.
  • The Coast Guard immediately dispatched a small boat from Coast Guard Station San Francisco to evaluate the incident and it is currently on scene.
  • A helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco will conduct an over flight of the spill area this morning.
  • Pollution investigators from Coast Guard Sector San Francisco were dispatched to the scene to investigate and assist with oil spill recovery.
  • Local Oil Spill Response Organizations have been notified and are responding.
  • Sector San Francisco is making notifications in accordance with the Regional Response Plan.
  • A 100-yard security zone has been established around the vessel and spill site.
  • The cause of the spill is under investigation.
