Coast Guard responds to spill in San Francisco Bay
ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Coast Guard, California Office of Spill Prevention and Response are responding to a fuel-oil spill in San Francisco Bay morning. The Panamanian-flagged vessel Dubai Star and a fuel barge were conducting bunkering operations at Anchorage Nine in San Francisco Bay when it released an unknown amount of fuel oil into the water. The spill was reported to the Coast Guard at 6:48 a.m. The Coast Guard immediately dispatched a small boat from Coast Guard Station San Francisco to evaluate the incident and it is currently on scene. A helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco will conduct an over flight of the spill area this morning. Pollution investigators from Coast Guard Sector San Francisco were dispatched to the scene to investigate and assist with oil spill recovery. Local Oil Spill Response Organizations have been notified and are responding. Sector San Francisco is making notifications in accordance with the Regional Response Plan. A 100-yard security zone has been established around the vessel and spill site. The cause of the spill is under investigation. ###
