Coast Guard medevacs man from tanker

Video of medical evacuation

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- A helicopter crew from Air Station San Francisco medically evacuated a 48-year-old male crewmember from a tanker vessel this morning, 25 miles off the coast of Pacifica, Calif.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco received a request for assistance early this morning from crewmembers of the Marshall Islands flagged 752-foot tanker vessel, Fedor, who reported a 48-year-old male crewmember was in distress and in need of medical attention. A flight surgeon was then contacted who recommended a medevac. Watchstanders launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew from Air Station San Francisco at 9 a.m. who arrived on scene shortly after.

After successfully hoisting the crewmember, the helicopter crew returned to the air station and transferred the patient to emergency medical personnel who were awaiting his arrival. The patient was taken to Mills Peninsula Hospital in Millbrae, Calif.
