Port Clinton native receives award

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Jamie Smiley-Urbina recently was awarded the Coast Guard Achievement Medal.

Urbina is the daughter of Sandra (Obergefell) Casper and James Smiley. She is a former resident of Port Clinton, Ohio, and is a 2002 graduate of Port Clinton High School.

The award cited her for outstanding performance while serving as the Coast Guard Pacific Area’s enlisted aide.

Urbina serves as a 3rd class yeoman for the Coast Guard.  She received the award based on superior judgment, logistics skills and partnerships with law enforcement and security personnel to facilitate the safe transfer of the Pacific Area commander.

She also coordinated national –level and international engagements with senior military leadership.

Urbina enlisted in the Coast Guard in 2004 and has served on assignments in both the Atlantic and Pacific regions.

Her other awards include a Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, Special Operations Award (3) and Meritorious Team Commendation Award (4).

Urbina is the mother of a son Ernesto "Lee" Urbina IV.
