Coast Guard maintains vigilance during holidays

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- U.S. Coast Guard forces in the Bay Area are maintaining a vigilant watch along the Northern California coastline during this holiday season.

Members of Air Station San Francisco conducted port, waterways and coastal security patrols of critical infrastructure here in the Bay Tuesday, December 22, 2009, a homeland security mission for stopping serious threats to Northern California's bridges, cruise ships, anchorages, ports, and other potential waterfront targets.

Coast Guard small-boat stations in the Bay Area are always available to respond to a variety of search and rescue and emergency calls. The stations will also patrol to promote safe-boating practices during the holidays. The Coast Guard urges mariners to practice safe boating during the holiday season.
