FACT SHEET U.S. Coast Guard 11th District, Alameda CA, 510 772-8865/510 772-3325 COAST GUARD HELICOPTER DOWN SOUTHEAST OF SALT LAKE CITY -- A U.S. Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter went down this morning approximately 40 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah. -- Preliminary reports are that three of the five crew members aboard were injured. -- The downed HH-60 was one of two on a cross country flight returning from Olympics security operations in the Pacific Northwest to their home base in Elizabeth City, N.C. -- The second Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk recovered two of the injured crew of the downed helicopter. -- The other injured crewmember was recovered by a MEDEVAC helicopter. -- Two other crewmen plan to leave the scene with ground rescue crews. -- The aircraft had landed for fuel in Salt Lake City and planned on flying to Colorado when one went down. -- Local search and rescue officials coordinated rescue operations. -- An investigation will be conducted. -- A Coast Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft based in Sacramento transporting personnel and equipment from Olympic security operations to the East Coast was also in the area. That aircraft assisted with communications and coordination of rescue efforts.
