Coast Guard partnered with other agencies to enforce security laws in port facilities

SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard and partner agencies worked together to enforce security laws and regulation in the Port of Oakland, 23 July 2010.

The Coast Guard partnered with Customs and Border Protection Agency, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency and the Oakland Police Department to verify the Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) status of individuals who gained unescorted access to a container facility as well as those who intend to enter the facility.

The Coast Guard verified 235 TWICs at Hanjin, Berths 55-56 and Transbay Container Terminal, Berths 25-26.

The Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection Agency share intelligence with regard to fraudulent TWIC card usage on a regular basis and tailor TWIC verification operations accordingly.

More information on TWIC cards and security regulations can be found on the Coast Guard’s website Homeport under the Maritime Security tab at http://homeport.uscg.mil.

The Coast Guard and its partner agencies will be conducting TWIC verification operations on a regular basis in the Port of Oakland.
