SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard responded to a report of pollution in the Redwood Shores Lagoon at approximately 12:30 p.m., today.
Coast Guard Sector San Francisco was notified that pollution was spotted near the plane crash at Redwood Shores Lagoon near San Carlos, Calif.
The Incident Management Division responded to the plane crash site and confirmed the pollution to be a high octane fuel. Because of high explosive risk, there are no plans to contain the fuel using boom. The downed plane has a capacity of approximately 250 gallons of fuel.
The IMD is comprised of pollution responders who will investigate and evaluate the size and type of the pollution.
The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the situation.
